oncogenic viruses
an epidemiologic class of viruses that are acquired by close contact (including sexual contact) or injection and cause usually persistent infection; they may induce cell transformation and malignancy. Oncogenic viruses are included in the families Adenoviridae, Hepadnaviridae, Herpesviridae, Papovaviridae, and Retroviridae.
