1. in a tracing of the venous pulse, a small positive deflection representing the bulging back toward the atria of the tricuspid valve at the onset of ventricular contraction. See also illustration at pulse. 2. in the electroretinogram, the positive deflection representing the response of the pigmented epithelium of the retina to photoreceptor-induced changes in extracellular potassium.
