cotransport

cotransport
The transport of one substance across a membrane, coupled with the simultaneous transport of another substance across the same membrane in the same direction.

* * *

co·trans·port (ko-transґport) linking of the transport of two substances across a membrane, one substance being transported down its concentration gradient, which powers the movement of the other substance against its concentration gradient; movement in the same direction is termed symport, while movement in opposite directions is termed antiport. Cf. countertransport.
