cu·beb (kuґbəb) [L. cubeba; Arabic kabāba] 1. a plant of the species Piper cubeba. 2. the dried, unripe, almost fully grown fruit of P. cubeba, which contains 10 to 18 per cent volatile oil, cubebin, resins, fat, and wax. It has stimulant, local irritant, and mild urinary antiseptic properties. Ingestion of high dosages causes irritation of the kidneys and urinary tract, sometimes with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, skin eruptions, and other symptoms; in severe poisonings, death from respiratory failure may occur.
