A broad-spectrum antibiotic that is more slowly excreted and more stable in acid and alkali than are other forms of the tetracyclines; available as the hydrochloride.

an antibiotic that is active against a wide range of bacteria and is used to treat various infections. It is also used to treat syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone. Demeclocycline is administered by mouth; common side-effects are nausea, diarrhoea, and symptoms resulting from the growth of organisms not sensitive to the drug. Trade name: Ledermycin.

dem·e·clo·cy·cline (dem″ə-klo-siґklēn) [USP] a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the tetracycline group, produced by a mutant strain of Streptomyces aureofaciens or semisynthetically. It also inhibits the effect of vasopressin on the renal tubules. Called also demethylchlortetracycline.
