a drug used to lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension and also used to treat conditions in which the levels of blood sugar are low (including insulinoma). It is usually administered (by mouth or (for hypertension) injection) with a diuretic as it causes salt and water retention. Trade name: Eudemine.

di·az·ox·ide (di″ə-zokґsīd) an antihypertensive, structurally related to chlorothiazide but having no diuretic properties, administered intravenously in the treatment of acute hypertensive emergencies. Because it inhibits release of insulin, it is also administered orally in the treatment of hypoglycemia due to hyperinsulinism, particularly that associated with malignancy.
