hep·a·top·to·sis (hep″ə-top-toґsis) (hep″ə-to-toґsis) [hepato- + -ptosis] 1. downward displacement of the liver, such as from laxness of suspensory ligaments, diminished tone of abdominal muscles, emphysema, right pleural effusion or empyema, subphrenic abscess, or spinal deformity. 2.
