mi·to·tane (miґto-tān) [USP] a cytotoxic compound related to the insecticides DDT and TDE (DDD) that causes severe damage to the adrenal cortex, causing a rapid decrease in adrenocorticosteroid production; used for palliation in inoperable adrenocortical carcinoma of both functional and nonfunctional types, administered orally.
