Hyper- (prefix)

Hyper- (prefix)
The prefix "hyper-" means high, beyond, excessive, above normal. For example, hypercalcemia is high calcium in the blood. And, for another example, hypersensitivity is oversensitivity. The opposite of hyper- is hypo-, as in hypocalcemia, low blood calcium and as in hyposensitivity, undersensitivity.
