ret·ro·spec·tive (ret″ro-spekґtiv) [L. retrospicere to look back at] 1. looking backward, or directed toward the past. 2. denoting a type of epidemiologic study in which patients are selected on the basis of an outcome (or lack thereof) and examined for factors that might be associated with the outcome.
