Scedosporium
An imperfect fungus of the form-class Hyphomycetes; anamorph of Pseudallescheria.
- S. apiospermum (sked-os-por′e-um) the imperfect state of the fungus Pseudallescheria boydii, one of the 16 species of true fungi that may cause mycetoma in humans or severe infection in immunosuppressed patients.
- S. inflatum See S. prolificans.
- S. prolificans a mold; a rare cause of deep fungal infection. Formerly called S. inflatum.

Sce·do·spo·ri·um (se-do-sporґe-əm) a genus of Fungi Imperfecti of the form-class Hyphomycetes, form-family Moniliaceae; its perfect (sexual) stage is Pseudallescheria. S. apiosperґmum is the anamorph of P. boydii, a major cause of eumycotic mycetoma. S. proliґficans, formerly called S. inflaґtum, has been isolated from several cases of osteomyelitis. Formerly called Monosporium.
