An enzyme catalyzing conversion of deoxyuridine 5′-monophosphate to thymidine 5′-monophosphate, the methyl group coming from N5,N10-methylenetetrahydrofolate.

thy·mi·dyl·ate syn·thase (thi″mĭ-dilґāt sinґthās) [EC 2.1.1.45] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate to deoxyuridine monophosphate, forming deoxythymidine monophosphate and dihydrofolate in the synthesis of deoxythymidine triphosphate. Improperly called thymidylate synthetase in older literature.
