whey 'hwā, 'wā n the serum or watery part of milk that is separated from the coagulable part or curd esp. in the process of making cheese and that is rich in lactose, minerals, and vitamins and contains lactalbumin and traces of fat

(hwa) the thin serum of milk remaining after the casein and fat have been removed; it contains proteins and the bulk of the lactose and water-soluble vitamins and minerals. The whey proteins, chiefly lactalbumins and lactoglobulins, constitute the majority of the protein content of human milk.
