Antisense RNA

Antisense RNA
The non-coding strand complementary to a coding sequence of messenger RNA (mRNA), a molecule involved in translating genetic instructions into proteins.

* * *

(asRNA) an RNA molecule transcribed off the coding, rather than the template, strand of DNA, and thus complementary to the sense (messenger) RNA; hybridization between the sense and antisense RNA molecules prevents translation of the mRNA in bacteria. In vitro, antisense RNA can be used to inhibit intranuclear RNA processing in eukaryotic cells.
