Neurobiological disorders
A preferred name for illnesses of the brain and nervous system that are known to be caused by genetic, metabolic, or other biological factors. Many illnesses categorized as psychiatric disorders are now known to be neurobiological in nature, including autism, bipolar disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, schizophrenia, and Tourette’s syndrome.
