Propositus
A male through whom a family medically comes to light (is first ascertained). Also called the proband or index case. The feminine of propositus is proposita.

pro·pos·i·tus (pro-pozґĭ-təs) pl. propoґsiti [L. “the one on display”] 1. proband. 2. more specifically the first proband to be ascertained (index case). Properly, the term is used for a male, with the female counterpart called a proposita.
