Ad·ie's syndrome 'ā-dēz- or Ad·ie syn·drome -dē- n a neurologic syndrome that affects esp. women between 20 and 40 and is characterized by an abnormally dilated pupil, absent or diminished light reflexes of the eye, abnormal accommodation, and lack of ankle-jerk and knee-jerk reflexes
Adie 'ā-dē William John (1886-1935)
British neurologist. Adie was on the staff at Charing Cross Hospital, Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital, and London's National Hospital for Nervous Diseases. He described the neurological disorder now known as Adie's syndrome in 1931. He is also remembered for his description of a kind of idiopathic narcolepsy and for the chapters on diseases of the nervous system that he contributed to medical textbooks.
