bio·ac·cu·mu·la·tion (bi″o-ə-ku″mu-laґshən) an increase over time in the amount of a substance in a living organism because intake of the substance exceeds the organism's ability to excrete it. It may be either more or less than the amount of the substance in the environment. Cf. bioconcentration and biomagnification.
