an acute, benign febrile infection with a biphasic course, caused by an arenavirus transmitted by the bite of the wood tick, Dermacentor andersoni, occurring in the western United States and Canada. Characteristics include leukopenia with fever, chills, and pain in various parts of the body. Called also mountain tick f.
