corpuscle of Herbst -'he(ə)rpst n any of several tactile organs that are found in birds and are related to Pacinian corpuscles
Herbst Ernst Friedrich Gustav H. (1803-1893)
German anatomist. Herbst spent his career teaching at the university at Göttingen. He also published numerous articles on subjects that included the air capacity of the lungs, the treatment of hydrogen cyanide poisoning, Asiatic cholera, and the lymphatic system. In 1848 he published an article on Pacinian corpuscles in which he described the tactile organs that now honor his name.
