epidemic keratoconjunctivitis n an infectious often epidemic disease that is caused by adenoviruses of the genus Mastadenovirus (esp. serotypes of species Human adenovirus B and Human adenovirus D) and is marked by pain, by redness and swelling of the conjunctiva, by edema of the tissues around the eye, and by tenderness of the adjacent lymph nodes

a highly infectious disease characterized by scant ocular exudate, round subepithelial corneal opacities associated with the keratitis, and often swelling of regional lymph nodes; there may also be systemic symptoms, especially headache. Adenovirus type 8 has often been isolated from patients with the disease. Called also shipyard k., viral k., and Sanders disease.
