helicase
he·li·case 'hel-ə-.kās, 'hē-lə- n any of various enzymes that catalyze the unwinding and separation of double-stranded DNA or RNA during its replication

* * *

hel·i·case (heґlĭ-kās) any of a diverse group of enzymes that use energy from ATP hydrolysis to unwind nucleic acid helixes. Some unwind the DNA helix at the replication fork so that the individual strands can be copied; others unwind RNA and participate in processes such as RNA splicing and messenger RNA translation.
