Thrombophilia

Thrombophilia
The tendency to form blood clots (thrombosis). The clots can break off, travel through the bloodstream and lodge in any artery of the body (thromboembolism) and impair the normal circulation within these tissues. Thrombophilia can be inherited or acquired.

throm·bo·phil·ia (throm″bo-filґe-ə) [thrombo- + -philia] a tendency to the occurrence of thrombosis. It can be familial, occurring as a multifactorial trait and resulting from mutation in any of numerous clotting, anticoagulant, or thrombolytic factors, either alone or in combination with each other or with various environmental factors.
