hyaline degeneration n tissue degeneration chiefly of connective tissues in which structural elements of affected cells are replaced by homogeneous translucent material that stains intensely with acid stains

a regressive cellular change in which the cytoplasm takes on a homogeneous, glassy, eosinophilic appearance. Also used loosely to describe the histologic appearance of tissues. Called also vitreous d. and hyalinosis.
