Tibia vara

Tibia vara
A condition characterized by disturbance of normal growth in the inner part of the upper tibia. Tibia vara causes a bowlegged gait, and can impair the knees significantly. It is most common in children of African descent. Treatment is usually by surgery, although an knee-ankle-foot orthosis (KAFO) brace may be tried. Also known as Blount disease.

medial angulation of the tibia in the metaphyseal region, due to a growth disturbance of the medial aspect of the proximal tibial epiphysis; there are both infantile and adolescent types. Called also Blount disease and osteochondrosis deformans tibiae.
