inclusion conjunctivitis n an infectious disease esp. of newborn infants characterized by acute conjunctivitis and the presence of large inclusion bodies and caused by a chlamydia (C. trachomatis)

a sexually transmitted disease caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. It can be transmitted to infants at birth, with the disease clinically apparent 5-13 days after birth. Diagnosis is by cell culture. Treatment in the newborn is with topical erythromycin; adults require oral tetracycline or doxycycline for three weeks.

conjunctivitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis; it affects primarily newborn infants, beginning as an acute, purulent conjunctivitis that leads to papillary hypertrophy of the palpebral conjunctiva. Called also swimming pool c.
