junctional tachycardia

junctional tachycardia
junctional tachycardia n tachycardia associated with the generation of impulses in a locus in the region of the atrioventricular node

* * *

tachycardia arising in response to impulses originating in the atrioventricular junction, with a heart rate greater than 75 beats per minute. It may be nonparoxysmal (nonparoxysmal junctional t.) or paroxysmal; if the latter, it may be due to reentry (e.g., atrioventricular nodal reentrant t.) or to enhanced automaticity.
