17-ketosteroid 'sev-ən-.tēn- n any of the ketosteroids (as androsterone, dehydroepiandrosterone, and estrone) that have the keto group attached to carbon atom 17 of the steroid ring structure, are present in normal human urine, and may be an indication of a tumor of the adrenal cortex or ovary when present in excess

(17-KS) any of the C19 steroids having a keto group on the 17 carbon, usually denoting the urinary metabolites of androgens secreted by the adrenal cortex and gonads. They are accumulated and excreted abnormally in certain adrenal cortical and ovarian tumors and congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
