Ma·rey's law mə-'rāz- n a statement in physiology: heart rate is related inversely to arterial blood pressure
Ma·rey mȧ-rā Étienne-Jules (1830-1904)
French physiologist. Marey contributed greatly to the development of experimental physiology. In 1860 he invented the sphygmograph, an instrument for recording the features of the pulse and variation in blood pressure on a graph. In 1861 he formulated Marey's law. He was the first to realize the relationship between blood pressure and heart rate.
