mu·pir·o·cin (mu-pirґo-sin) [USP] an inhibitor of bacterial protein synthesis, produced by fermentation of Pseudomonas fluorescens and effective against staphylococci and non-enteric streptococci; applied topically in the treatment of impetigo.
