inflammation of the point of attachment of the fascia in the sole of the foot to the calcaneus (heel bone), causing pain and localized tenderness of the heel. Treatment is a pad under the heel, anti-inflammatory medication, or steroid injections. The inflammation takes 6-12 months to subside.

inflammation of plantar fascia, owing to repetitive stretching or tearing of muscle fibers near their attachment to the calcaneal tuberosity; it is one of the most common causes of heel pain.
