Po·lyg·a·la (po-ligґə-lə) [poly- + Gr. gala milk] the milkworts, a genus of plants of the family Polygalaceae, having many species. P. seґnega L. is seneca or senega snakeroot, a North American species that yields senega. P. klotzґchii is a Brazilian species that causes fatal gastrointestinal and neurological disorders in cattle.
