sco·pa·ri·us (sko-paґre-əs) the tops of Cytisus scoparius, or broom; they contain the alkaloid sparteine and the principle scoparin, and are diuretic, cathartic, and emetic. Scoparius is abused by being smoked for its euphoric properties. Called also spartium.
