secondary syphilis n the second stage of syphilis that appears from 2 to 6 months after primary infection, that is marked by lesions esp. in the skin but also in organs and tissues, and that lasts from 3 to 12 weeks

the second stage of syphilis, usually occurring two to eight weeks after appearance of the primary chancre; characterized chiefly by widespread mucocutaneous lesions (see syphilid) and generalized regional lymphadenopathy. It is usually followed by latent syphilis (q.v.).
