Sibutramine is used in the treatment of obesity; it is prescribed mainly for those with a body mass index of 30 or over who have failed to respond to standard weight-reduction measures. It is administered by mouth; side-effects include dry mouth, constipation, and insomnia. Trade name: Reductil.
