tri·eth·yl·amine (tri″eth-əl-amґin) a liquid ptomaine with a fishy, ammoniacal smell, occurring during putrefaction, especially in fish; it is also synthesized for use in a variety of industrial processes. It is an irritant to tissue and is toxic by inhalation and ingestion.
