tuberculum im·par -'im-.pär n an embryonic swelling that is situated in the midline of the floor of the pharynx between the ventral ends of the two sides of the mandibular arch and of the second branchial arch and that prob. contributes to the formation of the anterior part of the tongue

a small elevation in the midline on the floor of the pharynx of the embryo, between the ends of the first and second pharyngeal arches (mandibular and hyoid arches); it is overgrown by the lateral lingual swellings and forms a small unrecognizable part of the adult tongue. Called also median tongue bud.
