accumulations of axoplasm in the nerve-fibre layer of the retina, which indicate disease (e.g. hypertension, connective-tissue disease, or AIDS).

white or gray soft-edged opacities in the retina composed of cytoid bodies; seen in hypertensive retinopathy, lupus erythematosus, and other conditions. Called also cotton-wool exudates or patches.
