hypercalcaemia
n.
the presence in the blood of an abnormally high concentration of calcium. Idiopathic hypercalcaemia is a congenital condition associated with mental retardation and heart defects. Hypercalcaemia can also be caused by excessive ingestion of vitamin D, overactivity of the parathyroid glands, and malignant disease. Compare hypocalcaemia.
