medical audit

medical audit
a process by which doctors systematically review the procedures used for diagnosis, care, and treatment, examining how associated resources are used and investigating the effect care has on the outcome and quality of life for the patient. When this process is undertaken by doctors, nurses, and other health-care professionals, it is referred to as clinical audit.
