plasminogen activators
enzymes that convert the inactive substance plasminogen to the active enzyme plasmin, which digests blood clots (see fibrinolysis). There are two types of plasminogen activators, tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) and urokinase-like plasminogen activator (u-PA).
