Abiotrophia

Abiotrophia
Abio·tro·phia (a-bi-o-troґfe-ə) a genus of gram-positive bacteria of the family Aerococcaceae, found growing in satellite colonies around other bacteria, especially Staphylococcus aureus; many are penicillin-resistant. They are found as normal flora in the upper respiratory, urogenital, and gastrointestinal tracts, and have been implicated in some cases of bacterial endocarditis. The type species is A. defectiva.
