corticotroph cell adenoma a pituitary adenoma made up predominantly of corticotrophs; excessive corticotropin secretion may cause Cushing disease or Nelson syndrome. Called also ACTH-secreting or adrenocorticotropic hormone–secreting a. and corticotropinoma.
