hypothalamic anovulation
anovulation caused by failure of the hypothalamus to secrete enough luteinizing hormone–releasing hormone. The most common causes are functional, such as excessive exercise, weight loss, or emotional distress. In a minority of women there is a primary cause such as aberration of neuromodulators within the brain.
