the interrelationships between the hypothalamic pituitary axis and the thyroid gland, including production of thyrotropin, its reception at sites in the thyroid gland, and negative feedback mechanisms by which high levels of circulating thyroid hormones act on the hypothalamus and adenohypophysis to inhibit secretion of thyrotropin. Called also HPT a.
