Analgesic agent related chemically and pharmacologically to meperidine hydrochloride; used for relief of moderate to severe pain; also mildly antihistaminic and spasmolytic; addiction liability is equivalent to that of morphine.

an·i·ler·i·dine (an″ĭ-lerґĭ-dēn) [USP] a synthetic opioid analgesic used for the relief of moderate to severe pain, as premedication for general anesthesia, as a postoperative sedative, and as an obstetric analgesic; administered intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or intravenously. Abuse of this drug may lead to dependence.
