platelet count
determination of the number of platelets per cubic millimeter of blood; it may be either a direct platelet count with a hemacytometer and a microscope or an indirect platelet count in which the ratio of platelets to erythrocytes on a blood smear is determined and the number of platelets is computed from the erythrocyte count.
