1. the number of muscle or nerve fibers in a unit area of tissue. 2. after a number of recordings of single fiber electromyography to the same muscle, the mean number of muscle fiber action potentials found to be single fiber action potentials and therefore to belong to the same motor unit; it is usually between 1.5 and 1.8.
