an autosomal recessive disorder due to mutation in the GYS2 gene (locus: 12p12.2), which encodes the liver isozyme of glycogen synthase, resulting in decreased hepatic glycogen stores. Patients present in early infancy with early morning drowsiness and fatigue with hypoglycemia and hyperketonemia. An analogous autosomal recessive disorder due to mutation in the GYS1 gene (locus: 19q13.3), which encodes the muscle isozyme of glycogen synthase, is sometimes also given this name; it is characterized by cardiomyopathy and exercise intolerance.
