a type of hepatogenous photosensitization in ruminants, particularly in New Zealand, due to ingestion of grass or grain contaminated with the mold Pithomyces chartarum, which contains sporidesmin; it is often accompanied by hepatitis or biliary obstruction, which can be fatal.
